Do you have a ritual when it comes to writing? Is there something that you must have at your desk before you put your fingers on the keys or your hand firmly around the pen?
If I am writing the old fashion way, I prefer to have a blue pen in my hand. Even though my handwriting can get a tad chaotic, I do love writing out my drafts. The color of the pen doesn’t help with my handwriting but I find the writing flows better with blue ink.
It doesn’t matter if I am sitting down with a pen or to a keyboard, there is one thing that I cannot write without: music. I work better with the right tempo banging in my ears. The right sound for the right scene tends to get replayed several times over.
Recently I have been introduced to United we Stand – Divided we Fall from Two Steps from Hell. It gave me a rush while editing a particular scene in the second book of the Phoenix Element series.
Coffee helps stir the mind as well. This is a curse and a blessing in a cup. On one hand, I can keep writing but on the other, it ends up being 5am in a matter of moments.
I would love to hear what you need before sitting down to write. Share in the comments below!
